... Some interesting observations obout The Viet Kieu Experience when visiting Vietnam from the USA.

Although growing up in a multicultural environment is no piece of cake, I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to experience multicultural life first-hand.
I was born on June, 15th 1978 in the former Saigon, Vietnam. When I was one, my family, and I escaped as boat people from the communist Vietnam to Germany. So, I actually grew up in Germany, had German friends and speak German as if it was my native tongue.
I went to the Leibniz Gymnasium (a gymnasium is a kind of high school in Germany) and really had the time of my life with my German friends.
However, I left my high school in Germany in 1995 for a semester abroad. At Buena High School in Ventura, I had the opportunity to go through senior year, including the graduation, the prom and what American high school life is all about. I can only say that I enjoyed most of the time with my experience at this high school. Returning to Germany suddenly did not appear that appealing anymore.
Back in Germany, I finished up my high school years and graduated from Leibniz in June 1997. It was one of most splendid time of my life, but, on the other hand, it was also the saddest time I had. The day I feared for so long came and we all stepped into a new part of our lives." ...................................... Minh T. Nguyen: "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

New blog editor offers voice capabilities
An interesting new blog editor called BlogJet, now in beta, offers the ability to include .wav files with posts so visitors can hear bloggers. Apparently either I'm messing up or the voice feature isn't enabled--I can't get the "Listen" link at the bottom of this item to function. Still, the potential is there for Lori Bell, Tom Peters and others working with the blind and the visually impaired. And if the blind/VI folks themselves can master this software, then so much the better.

From The Cluetrain Manifesto:
The End of Business as Usual " "Take a pot of water that’s just above the freezing mark. Now, crank up the heat and wait. Temperature rises. Wait some more. Go all the way to 211 degrees Fahrenheit and nothing looks much different. But then, turn it up one more tiny degree, and wham! The pot becomes a roiling, steamy cauldron."

bases (free Wifi access for students, a stunningly poorly designed

out there. Has anyone used Moogle? What about online lessons via

called [1]Ice Cube Storage Bricks that uses a conductive ceramic or
mylar
plate to transmit data between bricks across an air gap. Research
center
staff member Robert Gardner says that the idea is 'to walk up to the
system, attach the storage and then walk away.' No mention is made of
what happens when a brick in the middle of the cube needs to be
replaced
and the whole thing needs to be disassembled. To be really effective,
this would need to be teamed up with some sort of a backplane, but
the
tech is new and neat."

[0]book_reader (Gary Cornell) writes "Wow, what an intriguing title!
When
I was getting my Ph.D in math, the words 'sex' and 'mathematics' were
not
juxtaposed all that often, and I suspect we would have been more
likely
to expect a book titled 'Mathematics and the (lack of) Sex.' But,
hey,
times change and the author, who is not only a mathematician but also
someone who was voted one of Australia's 50 most beautiful people in
their equivalent of People magazine -- and remember this is the land
of
Nicole Kidman -- has a point. As she says, echoing G.H. Hardy's
famous
comment in '[1]A Mathematician's Apology': 'Mathematics is the study
of
patterns: their discovery, their interconnections and their
implications.' And what is sexual behavior but the most intriguing
pattern of all?" Read on for the rest of Cornell's review.
